A young boy whose parents pass away is shipped off to live with an Aunt  & Uncle on the other side of the island (Newfoundland).  The story walks us through his parents’ funeral, his move, his new school, his new home, getting to know his cousin, his girlfriend, running away from a nasty uncle with his cousin, his return to his own town and his discovery that his Grandfather is dying.  The protagonist is 14 years old.
